Lua – Self-Defense

Lua is the Hawaiian form of martial arts, or self defense. It combines hand -to-hand combat, which includes bone breaking, wrestling, punching, kicking, nerve pressure, and the use of weapons. Strategic thinking and muscle strengthening also play a part.

Lua incorporates haka (an old word for hula) to help develop grace, agility, & strong leg muscles. The haka dance accompanied with chanting assists those in battle, elevating them to a higher level of consciousness. Lua is a balance of spiritual & physical proprieties.

The arts of lomi lomi massage and la’au lapa’au, or the use of medicinal plants and herbs, are also taught to help to heal the body if injured.
